R/C's Anyone?
So recently decided to try R/C Helicopters. I'm going to start out low end of course.
Probably something like this: http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Def...D=EFLH2400 I know a couple people already that use them. |

RE: R/C's Anyone?
When I used to deliver parcels for Canada post, I would have to goto great hobbies everyday and I was so tempted to get a plane or car or something, always seemed fun. Never seemed to have enough money to start up, maybe something to do with fish I don't know. http://www.greathobbies.com/

RE: R/C's Anyone?
Too bad your not is SJ ... I think I am the only one here that has RC Helicopters. I have the one you are looking at and it is really quite easy to learn. I also have this one but I am afraid to fly it now LOL ... http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Def...D=EFLH1400
The closest part place is in PEI that I know of and every little crash seems to cost about a hundred bucks. I have only had it in the air hovering at about 10 feet and then I screwed up and backed off and it crashed .... cha ching ! another hundred bucks and time spent waiting for parts to come in the mail. I have repaired it back to almost new but it is now a neat desk ornament. My advice .... buy the simulator for $250 and practice with that. It will pay for itself if it saves you from the evil crash learning curve even a little bit !! |

I used the simulater at the store. It is pretty accurate it seems. I won't get anything bigger for a while but ill keep that idea in mind. Parts can be expensive.

RE: R/C's Anyone?
15 years ago I got into the R/C plane hobby.. layed out $1,000 for a Plane Kit (Cessna Model with a 6' Wingspan).. spent 4 months of painstaking work to build each part of hand cut and shaped Balsa.. covered it and installed the radio gear and engine. At the time I had a 6 channel JR radio set. The plane had all working control surfaces including flaps. Spent a month learning and burning in my engine. I even went to the field and took off by mistake.. I was taxing around to get a feel for the throttle... then a gust of wind lifted it in the air about 4' and I panicked and hit full throttle.. it took off in the air like a bird released.. it was gorgeous.. but I had no idea how to land it..lol.. no-one around to help. I decided to float it in a field of reeds and cut power.. it worked and I didn't have a scratch on it.
My wife was furious.. wanted to see it in the air for the first time. But no harm done. I then went to a Funfly day to have an experienced guy help me lear to fly it and land it. I was not going to put it up until my wife arrived, but I was young and overeager... and I ended up saying yes to the "Old Pro" .. well as he was running down the runway.. it lifted 2' in the air.. a Crosswind hit and it cartwheeled 35'.. there was 9 sobey's bags of splintered Balsa left. He said.. no worries. we can re-build it! My wife didn't speak to me for a month. But we did re-build it.. you couldn't tell there was a massive destruction just 6 weeks earlier. So off I went.. again.. without my wife (One would think I would learn). I got talked into putting it up again.. and this time we were in the air.. looked great... was a blast.. until the top wing tore off (The anchor Blocks were not epoxied right) and the body of the plane went into a nose dive from 1000'. What used to be 9' long became 6" long and 5' wide! Completly demolished the engine and radio gear. Needless to say.. the wife was really upset. she never did see it in the air.. and I have never picked up a piece of Balsa since. But hey.. if we this group decides to expand into the R/C area.. I might be able to tell her the Plane is an Aquarium Thing....lol 10G Nano Cube with: Yellow Watchman Goby, 2 False Black Percs, Furry Mushroom and Polyps...and a Huge Blue Hermit with assorted snails Underway: 220G Custom w 54G Sump/Fuge. |

RE: R/C's Anyone?
Wow, good story. Sucks that crashed liek that but that is one reason I'm going to start slow before getting a bigger one. To help that bit more. Ya I don't think there is to many people that do it around here to much anyway. I do know acouple with helis but thats about it. Be cool to get a group tho.

RE: R/C's Anyone?
So, I have the helicopter now! Been playing with it so much that my batteries for charging are dead already.
Will be buying a A/c plug for the charger this week. Cheaper in the long run. So once I get some more batteries I'll post some of it.

Has anyone else ordered one online and if so where did you get yours? We were looking at them before but they were cheaply made for the money they were asking...
